Puppy, Plus Weapons

September 22nd, 2009 by Matt

We adopted a puppy, whose name is Pepper. I’ve also taken up cut-and-thrust fighting in the SCA, which is all that and a bag of donuts. This slide show has five photos of the dog, and the rest is nerdy gear pics.

Side-Effect

August 31st, 2009 by Matt

A strange side-effect of pedagogy is that I seem to be more disgustingly vulgar on the weekends, as if to make up for my week spent in linguistic purity. I will try to avoid taking up binge drinking, however.

Random Crap

August 24th, 2009 by Matt

I’ve been getting geared up to teach high school for the last year or so, and consequently I’ve been crazy busy. Now, I’m teaching 10th grade English at a school district with insane poverty issues, and I’m loving it. But I’m still crazy busy. Prolly won’t post much, but I’m feeling the bloggin’ this AM, so there.

This weekend was largely insane. I played all day Saturday with Luke, pretty much. Bought some necessaries for the classroom, but otherwise, it was a Luke day. Sunday, I plowed through a ton of papers for the kids, hung cement board for the bathroom remodeling project (when the bathroom’s done, it’s puppy time!), and then Antonio came over and we played side-sword for a few hours.

Side-sword has me all beat up, but it’s way more fun than in-line rapier fighting. I’m pretty convinced one of my fingers has a fracture in it. It really hurts to play an A minor. Oddly, scales are relatively fine.
Time to make the donuts.

Recording

February 2nd, 2009 by Matt

That went remarkably well. We have five solid tracks that need a little clean-up and some mixing. The other two need some more work, and I don’t think we’re going to invest the money at this point to have a seven song demo instead of a five song demo.

The raw tracks are probably too raw to post, and plus I left the CD in my truck this morning, but I’m very pleased with the basic product. I think they’ll clean up very nicely.

My voice is raw, my throat is sore, my fingertips are numb, and I smashed a finger on my right hand carrying my bass cabinet back down to the basement, after the session, but I’m happy.

Tomorrow, the Studio

January 31st, 2009 by Matt

Sure has been awhile, you old blog, you. Sure has.

The band’s getting ready to head into the studio tomorrow. Flat Five in Salem, with Tom Ohmsen engineering. I’m looking forward to it enormously. I’m a bit anxious, though. I have a mild cold, and although I’ve been relaxing and ingesting zinc and vitamins alike, I can feel the stress in my throat after doing a little recording this evening. On the plus side, the recording I did was quality. It was a video, and I’m not going to post it here. Or not right now, anyway.

I’m going to bed now.

Playing Music

January 8th, 2009 by Matt

I’d told some folks that the music page was weird, and that I’d post some songs here. If you’re one of those folks, just go back to concretedreamband.com, click the Music tab, click Concrete Dream, and then click a song title. It might delay a few seconds while it loads, but it should play.
